The Ultimate Irony
"Father, forgive them for they know not what they do" (Lk 23:34).
"Those who persecute you will believe they are doing a religious good deed"(Jn 16:2).
There is no better irony, that is, none more poignant, than that of Jesus. That Jesus came, knowing He would be opposed, oppressed, and apprehended, not by hell's demons, not by the patently unrighteous and unwashed, not by those distainful of religion, but by religion itself, those professing closeness to God...this is history's most stupendous and collosal irony. No better example exists. It is in fact the prototype of all examples, of inequitable treatment, this treatment of of the Son of God by those claiming relationship with God.
Christian awake to the crux of the matter! The ultimately faithful One was denounced and executed by the then recognized but false world community of faith! The supremely Righteous was trampled, mistreated and murdered by those representing and tendering righteousness; God Himself snuffed out by those obstensibly in communion with God! Jesus called religion stinking graves, hypocrisy, and spiritual adultery. It is religion that pursued Jesus, and it is religion that ultimately will pursue Christians (Rev 19:2).
Be on your guard against religion, whether outside yourself or within. It is not a friend of God.
